Shocking NY's position on the taxation of online services in a startling, New York is now taking the position that Sales of online services are subject to sales tax – believe it or not – that sales of canned software. In other words, the Ministry argued that no significant difference between the purchase of an online service and, for example, buying a shrink version of Microsoft Word in a Staples store.
